![]() I don’t think I have played two versions for Bridge Constructor on the same system yet, which is a bit infuriating and whilst I can’t blame the devs for that, part of me would rather see them use Bridge Constructor as a platform and bring new themes to it on a regular basis, much in the way Zen Studios do with Pinball FX. I enjoyed the original Bridge Constructor but found Stunts and Medievil to be completely average, which came very close to me avoiding Portal altogether, but that along with this release of The Walking Dead has been a return to form and a great way to use popular licences. Again going beyond just finding a way across was a lovely addition to the gameplay and added an extra layer to proceedings. There is a good balance overall and I really enjoyed taking my time to logically think about the solutions to the problems laid out in front of me. At the point I was starting to think I was done I found the game was starting to wrap up. It does feel stale towards the latter stages, but I think the developers realised this. There is a lot of thought behind the game and a solid many hours to wade through. What is impressive though, is this doesn’t feel like a cheap cash-in using brand recognition for quick and easy sales and marketing. Yet adding these licences adds something to them that will draw you in. ![]() As Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead could have simply been a generic zombie theme, much as Portal could have just been a sci-fi theme. The licences acquired by Clockstone feel odd ones to get. Much like Bridge Constructor: Portal before it, the theme adds some neat new mechanics to the game that make it feel like a generally fresh entry and seems to use the theme as just a starting point and a reason to do that different thing. It is here the game deviates enough from the original ideas to make The Walking Dead a worthy purchase that is more than a themed re-skin. Yes, you need to escort the survivors across safely, but you also need to stop the horde getting through. This time out it is the survivors of the post-apocalyptic zombie outbreak. In the past that has been vehicles, people, etc. The core concepts are still in place, with you needing to construct a bridge that allows subjects to cross. The fact that many still haven’t experienced it is a shame.īridge Constructor: The Walking Dead is the latest spin on the game. ![]() ![]() It is probably the most well ported but least known series out there. I had to look it up and saw that Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead is the sixth entry over an 8-year span.Īs a series it has been on phones, consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and I am sure will see a next-gen port at some point too. Bridge Constructor is one of those titles that I am not exactly sure how many times I have played it, nor how many versions there have been. ![]() ![]() ![]() In a later section within this tutorial I will walk you through creating a MonoGame app, targeting iOS, using Xamarin Studio. I will explain the few that we will use in this tutorial, however an extensive set of documentation can be found here. Now, the final steps, before hitting the ‘publish’ button to create your sprite sheet data, is to alter a few settings depending on your requirements. Immediately you’ll see that TexturePacker has grouped all the images together, as below… (For the purposes of this tutorial I am using a set of images from my demonstration project on GitHub here). Then drag and drop the parent folder into TexturePacker. Next gather your individual images together into a logical folder structure. Select the MonoGame option and then ‘Create Project’ to move forward… You’ll be presented with a screen like below… This means that all the hard work of loading the sprite sheet and rendering the correct frame is taken care of for you – as described further below…įirst step – Download a copy of TexturePacker from here and load it up. Now the above maybe nothing new to a lot of people, however what you might not know, is that the latest version of TexturePacker has an option for exporting the sprite sheet and data file in a format targeted at MonoGame – along with access to source code for loading and handling the resultant data files within your MonoGame app. ![]() SpriteSheets – TheMovie – Part 1 by CodeAndWeb (See this fun video from the makers of TexturePacker that explains it better than I can) Using a single sprite sheet is much more efficient than loading lots of individual images in game development. The idea is that you draw the individual frames of animation for your game characters as separate image files – and then drag and drop them into TexturePacker – whereupon you end up with a single image file and accompanying data file ready to load into your game. I’ve mentioned TexturePacker in a previous blog post however, for those that haven’t used it before, it is a very easy to use application for creating Texture Atlases / Sprite Sheets. Also a link will be provided to the source code. Usually commercial software or games are produced for sale or to serve a commercial purpose.Hello! So it's not surprising that from a visual perspective, Persona 4 Golden is a pretty mixed bag. Persona 4 Golden is showing its ageĪs noted above, the original Persona 4 was a PS2 title, and even the gussied-up Golden edition was launched on a handheld system that would be considered underpowered by today's standards.
